Biography
Jesse "JerAx" Vainikka is a Finnish Dota 2 player widely regarded as one of the most innovative and skilled support players in the game's history. Born on May 7, 1992, JerAx has been a dominant force in the professional Dota 2 scene for nearly a decade, known for his creative playmaking, exceptional mechanics, and ability to elevate his team's performance.
JerAx's journey in competitive gaming began with Heroes of Newerth, where he played for teams like "Dirty Minds" and "Man the fuck Up" alongside future Dota 2 stars. After a mandatory military service in the Finnish navy, he transitioned to Dota 2 in 2013, quickly making a name for himself with his unorthodox but highly effective playstyle.
His professional Dota 2 career took off with QPAD Red Pandas, where he caught the attention of established players. He then joined 4 Anchors + Sea Captain, serving as team captain and drafter, before moving to Team Tinker and later MVP HOT6ix in South Korea. His time in Korea helped him develop a deeper understanding of the game's macro aspects and positioning.
JerAx's breakthrough came with Team Liquid, where he formed a formidable partnership with players like MATUMBAMAN and KuroKy. During this period, he established himself as one of the world's best support players, reaching multiple Major finals and consistently performing at the highest level.
The defining chapter of his career came with OG, where he formed legendary partnerships with N0tail, Topson, ana, and Ceb. With OG, JerAx achieved what many consider impossible: winning The International twice in a row (2018 and 2019), making him and his teammates the first players to accomplish this feat. His innovative Earth Spirit and Io plays in these tournaments, particularly his "Fountain Hook" style plays, became iconic moments in Dota 2 history.
Known for his exceptional Earth Spirit, JerAx has over 500 matches played on the hero with a 75.5% win rate. His playstyle is characterized by aggressive rotations, creative use of vision, and an uncanny ability to create space for his team. He's particularly famous for his off-meta hero picks and item builds that often catch opponents off guard.
After retiring in January 2020 due to a loss of passion for competing, JerAx made a surprising return to professional play in November 2021, joining Evil Geniuses as a position 5 support. However, following a disappointing performance at the Stockholm Major 2022, he transitioned to coaching, joining Team Liquid before eventually stepping away from competitive play again.
Throughout his career, JerAx has earned over $6.4 million in prize money, making him one of the highest-earning Dota 2 players of all time. His impact on the game extends beyond his achievements, as he's inspired countless players with his creative approach to support play and his ability to make seemingly impossible plays look routine.
