Oleksandr Olehovych Kostyliev
Biography
Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, born October 2, 1997, in Kyiv, Ukraine, is widely regarded as the greatest Counter-Strike player of all time. His journey in competitive gaming began in 2013 when he emerged from the CIS region as a prodigious talent, quickly gaining recognition for his exceptional mechanical skill and game sense.
S1mple's early career was marked by volatility as he bounced between several teams including HellRaisers, Flipsid3 Tactics, and Team Liquid. His time at Team Liquid from 2016-2017 proved pivotal, where he formed a formidable partnership with fellow superstar Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz and helped the team reach the finals of ESL One Cologne 2016.
In 2017, s1mple returned to Natus Vincere (NAVI), the team where he would cement his legacy. Under NAVI's banner, he achieved unprecedented success, winning the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 - his first and only Major title to date. This victory completed his trophy cabinet, which includes an Intel Grand Slam, multiple BLAST Premier titles, and IEM championships.
Statistically, s1mple's achievements are staggering. He holds the record for most HLTV MVP awards with 21 total, including 14 "Big Event" MVPs. He was named HLTV's Best Player of the Year three times (2018, 2021, 2022) and finished as runner-up in 2019 and 2020. His 1.31 career LAN rating remains the highest in CS:GO history, and he's the only player to maintain a 1.20+ rating across five consecutive years.
Known for his aggressive AWPing style and exceptional rifling ability, s1mple revolutionized the AWPer role. His highlight reel includes the famous "falling no-scope" against Fnatic at ESL One Cologne 2016, which earned him a graffiti in the game. Beyond his mechanical prowess, s1mple's impact extends to his influence on the game's meta and his role in popularizing Counter-Strike in the CIS region.
In late 2023, s1mple stepped away from competitive play citing personal reasons and dissatisfaction with Counter-Strike 2's early state. After a brief loan spell with Team Falcons and FaZe Clan in 2024, he made a surprise move to BC.Game in mid-2025, marking a new chapter in his storied career.
Off the server, s1mple has shown his character through charitable acts, including a $100,000 donation to UNITED24 during Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. His journey from a young talent in Kyiv to global esports icon represents one of the most remarkable stories in competitive gaming history.
