Biography

Michael 'shroud' Grzesiek is one of the most recognizable names in Counter-Strike history, known for his exceptional mechanical skill and game sense that transcended professional play to make him one of the most successful content creators in esports.

Born on June 2, 1994, in Mississauga, Ontario, shroud began his Counter-Strike journey in the early days of Global Offensive. He initially gained attention through his stream, where he showcased incredible mechanical skill that earned him the nickname "King of Reddit." His rise through the ranks was meteoric - from playing for smaller teams like Manajuma to becoming a stand-in for compLexity Gaming, replacing Todd 'anger' Williams.

His big break came when compLexity Gaming was acquired by Cloud9 on August 1, 2014. Shroud was signed as a permanent player and quickly established himself as one of the most mechanically gifted players in North America. Throughout his career with Cloud9, he was known for his aggressive playstyle and exceptional aim, often pulling off highlight-reel plays that would become viral sensations.

Shroud's career highlights include winning the iBUYPOWER Cup in 2015, ESL Pro League Season 4 - Finals in 2016, and the Americas Minor Championship - Kraków 2017. His most notable achievement was a 2nd place finish at ESL One: Cologne 2017, where Cloud9 fell to FaZe Clan in the grand finals.

What made shroud unique was his ability to maintain a high level of play while simultaneously building one of the largest streaming audiences in the world. He was chosen to represent North America in the All-Star MLG Columbus match, cementing his status as one of the region's top talents.

In August 2017, shroud and Jordan 'n0thing' Gilbert were benched from Cloud9, replaced by William 'RUSH' Wierzba and Tarik 'tarik' Celik. This marked the beginning of his transition away from professional play. He officially announced his retirement from professional Counter-Strike in April 2018, stepping down to become a backup player and full-time streamer for Cloud9 before eventually leaving to explore new opportunities.

Post-retirement, shroud became one of the most successful gaming content creators globally, streaming games like PUBG, Apex Legends, and later Valorant. His mechanical skill translated across multiple titles, maintaining the same level of excellence that made him famous in Counter-Strike.

Known for his calm demeanor and analytical approach to the game, shroud's influence on Counter-Strike extends beyond his playing career. He helped popularize the game through streaming, bringing millions of viewers to competitive Counter-Strike and inspiring a new generation of players with his mechanical prowess and game sense.
